Comment: In Esperanza Rising, I learned that the main characters had to go through tough challenges. Tio Luis burned down Esperanza’s house. Esperanza’s dad dies in the fire. All these bad things happen but she does not let her problems get her down.

Comment: I learned about overcoming obstacles in the book Esperanza Rising. Esperanza faces many obstacles, from her father’s death to a strike for better wages. Her mom also becomes very ill. It starts when her mom starts to cough and can not stop. A few days later, a doctor comes and tells them and Esperanza that her mom has Tuberculosis. Esperanza is strong, determined and does not give up.
